Hello friends!
Welcome to my first blog post, hopefully of many. I’m not
exactly a blogger so I’m just gonna go with da flow. The theme of my first blog
is: Business Class.
As many of you know, I was supposed to fly out of O’Hare on
Wed Dec. 26, but on that day I got a call that the plane was too small and they
needed people to go on the flight the next day. I obliged, as there was a 200
euro compensation included. Little did I know, I was also upgraded to Business
Class. Sweet!
It took over an hour of waiting until we were finally able
to get on the plane, but once I was on, boy was I happy! The amount of legroom
was amazing. I couldn’t even touch the seat in front of me if I tried. Also on
my seat were a water bottle, a very comfy blanket, a pillow, and some standard
crappy airline headphones. I made great use of the first three.

Once we were settled into the flight, the flight attendants
started serving dinner. They gave us a menu to look at and omg it was so fancy.
The first thing they gave us was a bowl of peanut and what looked like cereal.
At first I thought it was peanut butter Capt’n Crunch but I think maybe it was
Kix or something. Also, there was one lone raison in the bunch. I did not eat
it as raisons are the devil. Also at
this time I got some sparkling wine because I thought, hey why not. As I sipped
the wine, I realize that I still do not like wine. It’s disgusting. But maybe I’ll
come to like it after being in France, but for now, it was hard to drink the
small glass.
Next came the first course, which consisted of smoked salmon with egg salad and horseradish sauce served on a potato pancake, a seasonal salad, and assorted bread with butter. I didn’t eat the smoked salmon dish as I wasn’t in the mood to have an allergic reaction, so I ate the salad (why? I don’t know. I hate salad. I felt like I was eating weeds) and the bread. I’m not sure what kind of bread it was but it was yellow-colored and tasted sweet. Pretty delicious though.

Afterwards came the main course, which we had the choice of
poached cherry snapper with “Bok Choy” cabbage served with grilled potatoes,
sweet and sour chicken with broccoli and mashed potatoes, or beef stroganoff
served with pasta and vegetables. I chose the sweet and sour chicken because Chinese
food is delicious, and I was not disappointed. All three components of the dish
were very good and I was very satisfied with the meal. Also, I’m now wondering
why the Bok Choy in the snapper dish is in parentheses. Perhaps it’s fake bok
choy, not really sure.
After came a nice cheese selection. Although I realized that
all of this food was very fancy, the cheese selection took it over the top. It just
seemed so posh. I’m not sure what kind of cheeses they were, but one was very
soft and the second was what seemed like a hard cheddar. They were pretty good.
For dessert, I chose blueberry cake with whipped cream (you
could also choose assorted fruits but come on, why would I choose fruit over cake?).
The cake was delicious.
After dinner, I attempted to sleep with no luck, but that’s
okay. I listened to music for a while and then saw that the Polar Express was
playing so I watched that. Tom Hanks <3. After that, I again tried to sleep
but mostly I just drifted off for a little while listening to more music. Then I
realized that it was about an hour and a half until landing and they were
starting to serve breakfast. It honestly felt like the shortest flight ever,
and I didn’t even sleep through it. Amazing.
Breakfast was extraordinary. The main
dish was pancakes stuffed with apples and maple syrup, served hot. It was had
some slivered almonds on top. It was delicious omg. It reminded me of the
naleszniki my mom makes, except the dough was a bit more pancake like. It was
rolled into a log though. Also for breakfast was a fruit bowl of a strawberry,
some watermelon, some pineapple, and a melon. I ate the first three, as I’m not
very fond of melons. Next, I had bread with NUTELLA. You guys don’t even know,
when I saw the lady with the bread basket which had nutella packets inside, I got
so happy. Nutella <3. So I spread it onto a sesame seed bun bread thing and
it was godly. After that I had some blueberry yogurt which was also good. I also
had some coffee.
So that’s all the food. It’s A LOT of food. I was so stuffed
during the meal. We didn’t get any ice cream on the flight like I thought we
would (sorry Karolina) but the food was delicious nonetheless. I feel like you
definitely get what you paid for when flying business class, well at least a
little. Maybe not exactly 4x the price of economy but it was very luxurious. My
favorite part of the flight was near the end when we were flying over Scandinavia.
We were somewhere around Copenhagen and out the window I could just see all of
the islands. It was really pretty.
Some other free things I got were a case filled with toiletries
(toothpaste, toothbrush, lip balm, lotion), a pair of socks, a sleep mask, ear
plugs, and a shoe horn. I was definitely one of those people that put the
sleeping mask on. YOLO. I also got a Newsweek magazine and some polish magazine
that had Brad Pitt on the back in his ugly Chanel ad. While still at O’Hare I bought
“Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?” by Mindy Kaling of The Office fame. I got
about a third through it and it was pretty funny.
Now as I write this, I’m sitting in the business lounge in
Warsaw’s Fryderyk Chopin Airport. My flight got in a little before 10am, and my
flight to Krakow doesn’t leave until 12:45 so here I am writing my first blog
post. Overall this flight has been very nice and luxurious so far, though I’m
sad that I didn’t take the blanket from the flight (because I was scared to).
Oh well.
